Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch 2026: Black & White Reverse Panda Dials - Full Review & Unboxing (2026)

Omega Unveils the Iconic Speedmaster Moonwatch: A Timeless Classic Reinvented

The legendary Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, a direct descendant of the watch that accompanied astronauts on the Apollo 11 mission, is a timepiece that needs no introduction. But Omega isn't one to rest on its laurels, and the brand has just unveiled two new editions of this iconic watch, adding a fresh twist to its timeless design. Prepare to be captivated by the Speedmaster Moonwatch with black and white reverse panda-style dials, a rare and intriguing variation.

But first, let's address the elephant in the room. While these new editions are officially named the Speedmaster Moonwatch Black and White, they are more commonly known as "reverse panda" models in the watch world. A panda dial typically features a white face with black sub-counters, but these new Omega watches flip the script, showcasing a sleek black dial with white sub-counters. It's a subtle yet striking difference that sets these timepieces apart.

Omega has released numerous panda dial editions of the Speedmaster Moonwatch, including the 2004 Apollo XI 35th Anniversary, the 2003 Mitsukoshi limited edition, and one of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Collection models. However, the reverse panda dial is a less common sight, with only one previous edition coming to mind: the Speedy Tuesday model launched by Fratello in 2017. But now, Omega is expanding its collection with two new reverse panda editions, offering a unique take on this classic design.

And here's where it gets interesting... These new Speedmaster Moonwatch models are available in either stainless steel or Moonshine Gold, and they retain the classic features that make the Moonwatch so beloved. The case measures 42mm and features the iconic asymmetrical design, extended protection for the crown and pushers, lyre-shaped lugs, and an external tachymeter bezel. The watches are powered by the in-house calibre 3861 movement, a modern evolution of the classic hand-wound calibres that have been used in Moonwatches for over half a century.

The dials are where these new editions truly shine. The base is polished black with a varnished and lacquered finish, creating a glossy effect. The sub-counters are also varnished and lacquered, but in white, providing a striking contrast. Omega has chosen to apply hour markers and a logo directly to the dial, paired with polished metal hands. On the steel version, these elements are rhodium-plated, while the Moonshine Gold edition features solid gold hour markers, hands, and sub-dial hands, with the central seconds hand rendered in PVD Moonshine Gold. This attention to detail ensures optimal legibility and a refined aesthetic.

These new Speedmaster Moonwatch Black and White models are part of Omega's permanent collection, with the stainless steel edition priced at EUR 10,200 (incl. taxes) or CHF 8,100 (excl. taxes), and the Moonshine gold edition at EUR 48,600 (incl. taxes) or CHF 38,400 (excl. taxes).

Now, here's a question for you... What do you think of Omega's decision to release these reverse panda editions? Is it a refreshing take on a classic, or do you prefer the traditional panda dial? Let us know in the comments, and join the conversation on this intriguing addition to the Speedmaster Moonwatch family!
