The Duncraig Adventure Hub, an outdoor community facility in Perth, Australia, boasts an impressive audio and lighting system designed by ETC Solutions and Cablewise AV (CAV). This project, costing A$9.3 million, showcases a unique blend of functionality and aesthetics, catering to a diverse range of users. The facility includes a skate park, pump track, outdoor classroom, playground, and pathways, with a particular focus on creating an inclusive space for all ages and genders.
One of the standout features is the outdoor roller disco rink, which required a tightly integrated lighting and audio system. The design incorporates four technology towers framing the rink, each featuring CAV's colorful circular LED lights programmed to chase, cascade, and strobe. These towers also house two digital moving head LED light projectors and gobo image projection, creating dynamic lighting effects. The audio system is equally impressive, utilizing K-array Kayman-KY102 line array speakers and Rumble-KU212 12-inch omni subwoofers, powered by a Kommander-KA208 8x2,500W DSP amplifier.
The audio and lighting systems are seamlessly integrated and synchronized through the Q-SYS Core 110f processor, allowing for customizable shows based on the time of day and theme. Users can manage operations from a centralized touchpanel, which also integrates a Shure SLX-D wireless microphone system and data connections for networked audio. This user-friendly interface is a result of careful consideration and compromise among multiple stakeholders, ensuring ease of use for the end-users.
The project's success is evident in the positive feedback received from end-users, including a DJ who praised the audio quality and ease of use settings. The roller disco rink has successfully attracted an 85% female audience, balancing the facility's more male-focused skate and bike components.
