Returning from a brief absence due to left knee soreness, which kept him out of Saturday's defeat against the Portland Trail Blazers, Ayton put on a clinic by scoring 25 points and securing 13 rebounds without committing a single turnover. Impressively, he went a perfect 10-for-10 from the field, making him the first player in the franchise’s history to achieve 25 or more points with 100% shooting and no turnovers since official tracking of turnovers began back in the 1977-78 season, as noted by ESPN Research.
"That’s pretty cool," Ayton remarked modestly, reflecting on his achievement. He credited his teammates for their role in his success, saying, "They find me in the most easiest spots ever, and I got some easy ones tonight, for sure." His performance didn’t just stop there; Ayton also became only the third player in Lakers history to make at least 10 shots without a miss while grabbing at least 10 boards, joining the illustrious ranks of Wilt Chamberlain and Mitch Kupchak.
"That’s a thing I never even thought I would be a part of," Ayton said, expressing his gratitude for being part of such an elite group. "I’m definitely honored and appreciative, but I love this game so hopefully I get more of those moments."
Ayton’s exceptional play was crucial for the Lakers, who had been struggling lately with five losses in their previous six games, suffering an average defeat margin of 13.2 points. "I mean, we’re getting paid to do this," Doncic affirmed, emphasizing the team’s commitment despite the challenges of travel. "Shouldn’t be any excuses. So I know it’s going to be a lot of traveling, but we get paid to do this and I love it."
