Broadway's Snowy Struggles: Another Evening of Cancellations
For the second consecutive day, Broadway has fallen victim to the relentless blizzard, forcing the cancellation of all evening performances on Monday, February 23. This decision comes as a result of the ongoing blizzard's impact and local travel restrictions still in place.
While many Broadway shows typically take a break on Mondays, some do have performances on this day. However, tonight was not one of them. The affected shows include the critically acclaimed 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child', 'Chicago', 'Every Brilliant Thing' (starring Daniel Radcliffe, the famous Harry Potter himself), 'The Great Gatsby', and 'Six'.
'Chicago' has taken a proactive approach by adding a matinee performance on Thursday, March 5, at 2 p.m., to compensate for the missed show.
The Broadway League announced the cancellations this afternoon, emphasizing the challenges posed by the blizzard and travel restrictions. 'Broadway theatre owners and producers have unanimously decided to cancel tonight's performances to ensure the safety and well-being of our audience and staff,' the League stated.

On Sunday, as the winter weather intensified, and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani imposed a nighttime and Monday morning travel ban, Broadway canceled its evening performances. The musical 'Operation Mincemeat' initially held out hope of proceeding with a Sunday night show, marking the final performance of the original British cast. However, the performance was eventually canceled, and the cast delivered a live-streamed concert version instead.
The American replacement cast of 'Operation Mincemeat' is set to begin performances on Tuesday.
Additionally, ABC's live daytime talk shows, 'Live With Kelly And Mark' and 'The View', were broadcast without their usual studio audiences due to the blizzard conditions in New York.
